Shock As Creche Closes Without Warning
Thursday, 22 December 2011
PARENTS of children attending the Playhouse Creche in Ballin Ri, Tullamore were shocked when they turned up at the premises this week only to be informed that the facility is closing and the owners cannot be contacted.
Playhouse Creche, a privately provided service, has been operating in Tullamore for approximately five years.
Manager Niamh Smith said she had to buy food for the children out of her own money last Monday and yesterday (Tuesday, December 20).
In addition she feared neither her or the staff will get paid for last week or this week. The creche employs around six staff members.
She said the Health Service Executive who learned of the situation when they were visiting the creche on a separate matter advised Niamh Smith to close down.
Ms Smith said the parents were very upset, especially those who have been bringing their children to the facility for a number of years but she said she cannot keep it going on her own.
Adrian Fitzpatrick said two of his children have already attended Playhouse Creche and his third child was now attending. He is devastated to learn that the creche is to close.
The name linked to the premises on the Playhouse Creche website is Melissa Foran. However at the time of going to print the Tribune was unable to make contact with her.
Another name associated with the creche is Patrick Dalton but the Tribune was unable to make contact with Mr Dalton either.
