Curley completes fantastic weekend by retaining Longford marathon thumbnailThe Tullamore Harriers Half Marathon gets underway Saturday last. Included in the front are Paul Buckley (56), Mick Murphy (583), Brendan Donagher (199 and Pauric Ennis (818)

PAULINE Curley completed a fantastic weekend when she had an easy win in the ladies race at the Longford marathon on Sunday.

The Killeigh native was thankful that she didn't have to fully extend herself to win comfortably in 3.00.19, almost ten minutes clear of Dolores Duffy who was second in 3.09.59.

Former Olympian Curley had won the Tullamore half marathon on Saturday, running a very good 1.23.01.

Fortunately, she didn't have to go anywhere near the same pace on Sunday, averaging 6.53 minutes a mile, compared to a much tougher 6.20 minutes a mile the previous day.

The effects of Saturday's run were still in the Tullamore Harriers runner's legs on Sunday but within a short distance of the start, she knew that she was in control of the ladies race and she coasted to her win.

It is her second successive year to do this double. A multiple winner on the Irish marathon circuit and a competitor in the distance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Curley would generally complete a marathon in close to 2.50 now and didn't need to go into true race mode in Longford.
