County Board holding powder dry as Wallace faces eight week ban thumbnailStephen Wallace.

OFFALY senior football manager, Stephen Wallace is facing an eight week ban as a result of an incident at an Intermediate Football Championship game in Kerry recently.

Wallace was reported for an incident during his club, Ardfert's Intermediate Football Championship game against John Mitchell's - Mitchell's won the game by 1-5 to 0-7.

The Kerry man was a Ardfert official at the game and the Kerry Competitions Control Committee have proposed a ban of eight weeks for him. A number of players were hit with match bans while Wallace and another official Pat O'Driscoll have been proposed for more severe punishment.

Wallace has the right to appeal the suspension to the Kerry Hearings Committee and is believed to be taking up this option. Apparent footage of the incident has been widely circulated in Offaly in the past week.

A suspension would greatly impact on Wallace's role as Offaly senior football manager as he would not be allowed on the line at games. The rule about suspensions for officials is somewhat vague and it would not prohibit him from his other managerial duties while he could be allowed into the dressing room before and at half time in games.

The Offaly GAA County Board won't be commenting on the matter until the disciplinary process in Kerry is finished.
