Present weather conditions and completing entries for agricultural shows may vie for attention, but this could be a costly experience. A massive prize fund of €175,000 is 'up for grabs' in Tullamore on Sunday 12th August and will be awarded to the prize winners of the 1,000 plus classes of Irelands Premier Show, Tullamore Show & FBD National Livestock Show. However, if you have not entered, you certainly will not be one of the beneficiaries
Friday next 6th July, is a date for the diary, as postal entries close on that date. On the other hand, if you want to avail of the bespoke online entry system, developed by Dotser, you will have until Wednesday 18th July to complete your online entries.
The FBD National Livestock Show competitors will be competing for 65% of the prize fund, not to mention the much sought-after gold and silver medals, which are awarded to the champions and reserve champions of the dairy and cattle breeds. The standard of exhibits is exceptional with almost 2,000 entries from the crème de la crème of Irish livestock providing very keen competition and a difficult task for the national and international judges.
All the main breeds of cattle and sheep are catered for, with the Limousin, Charolais, Simmental and Hereford Societies incorporating their national shows into the programme. Alpacas and pigs are the most recent additions to the programme and will be adding agility elements to their competitive activities. Equine, home industries, inventions, dogs, poultry etc are also included in the competitive programme. Full details are available to download from
