FINE GAEL aims to double the party's number of councillors on Offaly County Council in next year's local government elections.
The party is currently planning conventions for the three electoral areas in Offaly, Fine Gael Regional Organiser, Enda McGloin told the Tribune at the Ploughing on Thursday.
“Our ambition is to double our representation of three councillors and that would be a conservative ambition," stressed Mr McGloin.
Asked about the retirement of veteran standard bearer Cllr Tommy McKeigue in the Tullamore electoral area, Mr McGloin said a number of names to succeed him were in the mix but he refused to be drawn on the issue.
He stressed the party was in good shape in Offaly with a large number of registered members who they needed to canvass in the forthcoming local elections.
Fine Gael General Secretary Tom Curran said this was the 26th championships he had attended since assuming the top managerial role in the party.
“But this is the first time the event has been called off in all those years," noted Mr Curran.
He extended thanks to those party members who had taken time to volunteer at and visit the party stand.
