Everyone wanted a piece of Joachim Kelly after the final whistle blew on Sunday. He had just masterminded their 31st Senior hurling title as the O'Connor Park sod turned into a see of green and white.
Joachim, that must be a great feeling?
“I am a very happy man. I have been in situations like this with my club Lusmagh winning one in 1989, winning one with Portumna back in 2003, winning with Offaly Camogie back in 08,09 and 2010 and with Offaly back in the 80's but this one is the sweetest one I ever enjoyed."
You came in at the start of the year, into a long and drawn out championship structure but the ultimate prize was delivered today?
“I am delighted for the Coolderry boys. They are a fantastic bunch of lads with a great attitude. Myself, Martin Bennett and my selectors came in back in January and we said we could take each match as it came.
“We started out against Kilcormac/Killoughey and we got a point out of that one. We got two points against Clareen after that, then we got a draw, a win and another draw and topped the group and then we got ready for Belmont in the semi final.
“Belmont was one of our toughest matches. They could have pipped us but here we are after winning the final. I am delighted for everyone."
It was a special performance from your group and they fully deserved the win?
“Coolderry are top of the pile with 31 championships and no one else even comes near them. Coolderry is Coolderry and what I mean by that is every time they go out, they expect to win. EverY County final they go into, they expect to win it. They have fantastic tradition and are afraid of no one. They will have that until the end of the world."
People were saying that an ageing Coolderry wouldn't compete for the championship this year?
“This team is not on the way out at all, this team can only get better. There are a lot of young fellas coming on in Coolderry."
You know have a Leinster championship to look forward too and no doubt you will be putting your best foot forward for that?
“We are playing the Carlow champions and we will prepare for them. We respect every club no matter what county they are from, big or small. I am from a small club in Lusmagh and I would like for everyone to respect Lusmagh."
Kilcormac/Killoughey have been a great club over the last number of years and they put up a great battle to you today?
“It was fantastic to see K/K coming in the last few years and winning four championships. I was even over with them in Feighery's celebrating with them when they won the Leinster club final. They are a great club."
I felt the first five minutes of the second half were crucial when Brian Carroll popped over those two points to push you out to six points ahead?
“We talked about that in the dressing room before we went back out. We talked about the first five minutes of the second half was going to be the most important five minutes of their hurling careers.
“If we got the first point we would go to five points up and if we got the second one, we would go to six up. It worked and what can I say, they are a great bunch of players with a great attitude."
