MANAGER Jimmy Greene had his first outing with his squad in this pre-season friendly against Longford Town in Leah Victoria Park last Saturday.
Missing approximately six of his first team it was an ample opportunity for him to run the rule over a number of the club's up and coming players and he was impressed with what he saw.
The physically stronger and fitter Longford side were never in serious trouble during the game and two first half goals and a lovely second half strike saw them running out comfortable winners.
A new addition to the Tullamore squad who is sure to delight fans during the coming season is Nigerian student Haffeez Shalola who has played for Athlone Town and Galway United.
His pace and ball control posed a constant threat and he was unlucky not to cap a fine all round performance with a goal.
Jimmy was also impressed with Ken Doyle, Gary Buckley and Stephen Francis and he singled out young defender Michael Kenaney for particular praise. He was pleased to have the opportunity to play against League of Ireland opposition as he looks to get his squad fully match fit for the season ahead. Their first competitive outing is next Sunday away to Dublin side Bangor Celtic in the preliminary round of the Leinster Senior Cup with the winners at home to UCD in the following round. Tullamore: Joe Mooney; Trevor Moylan, Scott Delaney, Ken Doyle, Michael Kenaney, Gary Buckley, Stephen Francis, Stephen Duffy, Jason Pohl, Simon Keegan, Michael Hoey. Subs : Haffeez Shalola, Fergal Gorman, Keith O'Connor, Enda Carroll and Stuart Kavanagh (all used).
