Hugh Lynch’s Tag Rugby League

Thursday, 8 July 2010

LAST Thursday evening in Tullamore Rugby Club saw the completion of the initial group stages of the Tag Rugby League.
All sixteen teams have played three matches each. So far over the three nights there has been great excitement accompanied by the odd tear and tantrum!
The supporters clubs for Hear for de Beer, Taggravators and the Tullamore Blues are doing sterling jobs in encouraging their teams.
And not forgetting the refs, Martin Nunan, Dave Derring, Ivor Scully, Dave McCann, Clive Wardrop, Paul Cronin and Mark Lumley who are doing a great job in keeping law and order on the pitch.
Hear for de Beer was victorious against The Chancers. It was a fast paced game and they were evenly matched. What won it for Hear for de Beer was the great team-work which was reflected in the high number of girl tries.
Designated Drinkers also had a high number of girl tries, two being contributed by Mary Hensey, her first of the season, but they were just not enough to match last years league winning Eskimo Joes team. The Ronnie's, Woltrap, Hughie's Heroes, Brazil Nuts Tullamore Blues and Jaeger Bombs were also winners on a beautiful summers evening.
The results have been totted up from the first three games and the following teams will play in the cup competition: Eskimo Joes, Tullamore Blues, Hughie's Hero's, Brazil Nuts, Jaeger Bombs, Here for de Beer, The Ronnie's and Wolftrap.
The following teams will complete in the plate, Designated Drinkers, Craic Heads, Isotron, Taggravators, Dolly Mixtures, The Chancers, Wedgies Wonders and Bridge House.
The night didn't finish on the pitch and there were a number of players seen donning their tag shorts in the league sponsor's establishment - Hugh Lynch's - for some Après Tag.
Tag Rugby continues on Thursday evenings with games at 7 and 8oclock.
