DEAN Power won the Leinster title in the u/16 60 metre race over the weekend at the Indoor Championships in Nenagh in a race that he dominated from start to finish.
Dean's title was the second win for the Tullamore Harriers Juvenile squad who travelled to the Indoor arena last Saturday and Sunday.
Christopher Whittle put in a fine performance in the u/12 Long Jump to take gold, with Cormac Izuchukwu following closely behind to take silver. Cormac also won silver in the u/12 600 metres, just ahead of Mark Milner who claimed bronze.
A further medal came in the u/12 age group when Clare Rafter ran a fine race to finish 3rd in the 600 metres. Nicole Cuskelly finished an excellent week following her international debut last Sunday by winning silver in the u/17 1500, behind Linda Conroy from Mullingar.
Eileen Wrafter continued her fine running winning silver in the 800 metres, and Paddy Heffernan ran extremely well in the u/17 hurdles winning silver. Sinead Rigney also showed real determination to finish third in the u/17 1500 and Kelley Cunningham was unlucky to miss out on a medal in the u/19 shot. Barry Mooney continues to impress putting in a very gutsy performance to hold onto bronze despite fierce pressure in the last 50 m of the u/14 800m. Others who did very well over the weekend included Eoin Delaney, Sean Donegan and Darragh MacNamara. These three boys did not win medals this weekend but continue to improve and learn from each competition and it is just a matter of time before they take their place on the podium. Well done to all the athletes who competed over the weekend, the experience will help greatly as they continue to train for the outdoor season.
Brady wins award at AAI Juvenile Star Awards
Liam Brady finished his award winning Juvenile career by taking yet another title over the weekend. Liam was honoured as the best Offaly Juvenile athlete for 2010 by the Athletics Association of Ireland at their annual awards ceremony last Friday night in the Sheraton Hotel Athlone. We wish Liam continued success in his career, he is a wonderful ambassador for the club and for the sport.
