Tullamore 1sts 2. Skerries 0.
TULLAMORE played at home for the second week running on Saturday last in the Harriers against opponents Skerries.
The game was delayed by half an hours due to a problem in the Skerries camp. However when the game did commence it got off to a flying start. It was evident that whoever was going to be victors would have fitness on their side. Tullamore did have a shaky start and allowed Skerries to take unchallenged shots on goal. Tullamore's goalkeeper Clodagh Armitage did superbly well and drove on her defence. Grace Brennan in her new position of centre back took a while to settle and the Skerries centre forward was running riot.
However ten minutes into the game Grace started to get on top. The midfielders as always worked tirelessly to supply the forwards with good ball. This work payed off and twenty minutes into the half Tullamore scored their first goal. Kate O' Brien who had a great game in centre midfield hit a long ball to right forward Ciara Geogehan who dribbled into the circle and give a firm pass to Niamh Remdond who then slotted the ball home. Niamh did extremely well and is now one of the 1st team top scorers. As half time approached Tullamore was well on top much to the annoyance of the Dublin side.
In the second half Tullamore continued to work hard their passing and team work were very impressive. It was clear to see that this team was really starting to gel together. Kirby Cox and Ailis Redmond stood solid in defence. In fact Ailis had her best game in the club jersey. Midfields of Aideen Mahon, Sabrina Carroll and Kate O' Brien did extremely well.
The second well deserved goal came midway through the half. Emma Delahunt was awarded a free in defence. Emma took her own free and sent a cracking shot up the pitch, all the forwards were dragged out the pitch and midfield Sabrina Carroll chased the ball down dispossessed the Skerries sweeper and with her back to goal passed to the incoming Ciara Geogehan. Ciara made no mistake the sent the ball flying into the net. This was a very comprehensive victory for Tullamore and they could have easily won by three or four goals. Thanks to coach Peter Kings who is doing a great job.
Next week Tullamore 1sts team are away to Navan and Tullamore 2nds have a well deserved break. Best wishes to 1sts team player Amanda Haslam who is currently unwell.
Tullamore 1sts: Clodagh Armitage, Emma Delahunt, Ailis Remdond, Grace Brennan, Kirby Cox, Aideen Mahon, Kate O' Brien, Sabrina Carroll, Ciara Geoghan, Niamh Redmond and Sarah Keegan.
