Tullamore Face Crunch Home Tie With Skerries thumbnailTullamore Rugby Club Captain Aaron Deverell, President Jim Quinlan and Club Coach John Moylan. MT48300

Tullamore 1st XV have a vital home game next Saturday (K.O. at 3pm) against Skerries. Tullamore currently lie in 3rd place in the league after an indifferent start to the season. Their first encounter was away to Skerries where they were well beaten. This was followed by two narrow losses to Dundalk and Garda. However the squad under the management of John Moylan, John Burns and Vinny Wyer have knuckled down to the job on hand and have won their last three league games.
Skerries currently second in the table are a serious side with ambitions of winning this season's league and regaining their senior status which will return them to where they believe they belong. They play a very open and fast game which is directed by their half backs Chris Keane and Hewitt. Their pack is young and aggressive and their scrum has improved having signed an overseas prop James Ngatupuna. Their captain Joe Glennon is a son of the legendary Jim Glennon of Ireland,Leinster and Skerries and they will have a big advantage as they are coming off a free weekend before they face two vital top 3 matches against Tullamore and table toppers Newbridge on 10th Dec.
For Tullamore they must get two pre Christmas wins against Skerries and Monkstown if they are to have any chance of challenging for league honours at the end of the season. Recently Tullamore were reported to be playing a "Munster" style of rugby which when put to Club Coach , John Moylan(from Nenagh) drew a smile.
The Tullamore pack is beginning to play rugby on the front foot which is now making opportunities for their backs. The injury list has been pretty drastic for the last number of weeks with Ger Molloy, Keith Scally, David O'Neill, Jason Clancy, Mark Whelan, Colin Hughes and Rory Deverell all missing league matches. Most of these lads are coming available and Tullamore will also welcome Ivor Deverell back from holidays. Clearly coach Moylan will have selection issues for the game but with returning players they are issues that a coach will be happy with.
