Minor hurlers face trip to Capital

FOLLOWING on from their encouraging opening round performance against Wexford in O'Connor Park last Saturday, the Offaly minor hurlers will make the trip to Parnell Park on Saturday (2pm) to take on Dublin in the hope of not only putting in a similar performance but also picking up their first Leinster championship points.

Wexford finished the game stronger last weekend with a goal five minutes from time putting them in pole position but there was plenty for the Offaly camp to be positive about.

Dublin will also be looking for their first points of the campaign having been edged out by a last minute point against Kilkenny last Saturday.

It will be another stiff test for the Offaly men as they compete in tier one of the championship this year.

In a group with Wexford, Dublin and Kilkenny, where they finish in the group will determine which of the teams from the other groups they will face in the knockout stages.

Having come so close to beating Wexford, there will be no shortage of motivation to go out and try and go one better this Saturday.

They only scored 1-4 in the second half against Wexford and this was with a strong wind behind them while only three of their 11 points in total came from play. This is evidence that despite their good performance, there is still room for improvement.

Dublin will go into the game as favourites but Offaly, unlike other years when coming up against the big counties at minor level, have a real chance. They won't sit back and look to keep the damage to a minimum as proven last Saturday. They went out, had a cut and came up short and there is no shame in that.

Expect them to have another cut off one of the big guns this Saturday.
