LAST Wednesday at the Grand Hotel in Moate the Toastmasters area 9 Humorous Speech Contest and Table Topics Contest took place.

The standard of the competitions was fantastic and the contest brought together members of Toastmasters clubs from Athlone, Cavan, Mullingar and Tulllamore.

Mike Keenan and Charles Malone represented the Tullamore Toastmasters club in both the humorous speech and topic competition.

Charles' speech "The snow" featured childhood memories and his beloved Croghan Hill.

Mike's speech ultimately took first place with his speech "TRY", exploring how the Irish Rugby team could change the nation's way of thinking.

Mike will go on to represent the club in the Division F contest at 2 pm in The Loughrea Hotel and Spa, this Saturday, November 24.

After a five-minute break the topics competition took place.

All the contestants had do a topic on "whoever laughs last laughs the loudest".

Both Mike and Charles did a fantastic job representing the club and in the end Charles finished in a creditable third place.

The Tullamore Toastmasters Club wishes the best of luck to Mike in the next round.

It is hoped that all members and those interested will come along to the next Tullamore Toastmasters meeting on November 22 in the Central Hotel, Main Street, Tullamore at 8.30pm.
