Lions aid St Catherine's fund

Shocked and saddened by the damage visited on St. Catherine’s Church recently, the Lions Club decided to make a donation of €1,000.00 towards the cost of the work that now needs to be carried out there.

A cheque was presented to Canon Isaac Delamere, Rector of St. Catherine’s, by Club President, Michael Casey, at the November meeting of the club.

In making the presentation, Michael expressed the sympathy of the club to the parishioners who worship at St. Catherine’s, who are the most directly effected by the damage to their church, and went on to say that everyone who regards St. Catherine’s as an important place in the wider Tullamore community shares their sense of unwelcome intrusion and injury.

He mentioned that the presentation he was making was an initial response to the immediate financial need that has arisen and that the club is willing to engage with the fund raising projects that will be necessary to raise the full amount that will be needed to meet the considerable costs that will arise.

Canon Delamere, in accepting the donation, expressed his gratitude to the Lions Club for their generosity.

He mentioned how the support of individuals and organisations in Tullamore and much further afield was a source of great comfort and support at a very difficult for his parishioners and all involved in the work resulting from the damage to St. Catherine’s.
