The Sportsman Inn, on Main St, Daingean is to re-open its doors Friday December 7th, with doors opening at 7pm. The music for the night will be provided by PULSE (former members of Hush) and there will be a complimentary glass of bubbles for the first 50 guests.
The building was last open as the Midway Hotel and has lain empty for almost 10 years. There is huge interest and support for the pub, as it is a collaborative ownership of three local Daingean men, David Farell (owner of the Gaelic Bar, Daingean), Mark Feely of Carpentryworks.ie and Vincent Dunne.
Work has been undertaken over the last six months to renovate the structures of the building and re- furbish the bar and lounge, and it has been given quite the face lift. Locals are sure to be glad to see the return of the spacious venue, which has plenty of cosy nooks and crannys for a quiet catch up with friends, large flat screens for sports fans, a pool table, state of the art music system and a function room with newly polished dance floor for all your Christmas party nights!
The venue is available for private parties, christenings etc and party food can be ordered in on request. There is a newly established book club beginning in the coming weeks, Daingean and surrounding areas Film club will also take place in the lounge on a regular basis as well as other local meetings. The Sportsman music sessions will be starting in January for any interested musicians looking for a space to meet and play.
There are many empty buildings on the Main St in Daingean, and the upper end of the street in particular has been very dark in recent years. To re -open such a large building and light up the street again is a source of great excitement in the village.
The opening is at 7pm, Friday 7th Dec, please keep an eye on the Sportsman Inn facebook page to hear of further events and updates.
