THE four sitting Fianna Fail councillors in the Tullamore Electoral Area were selected to contest next year;’s local elections at the ap[rty’s convention in the Tullamore Court Hotel last Thursday night.
The four - Cllr. Declan Harvey, Cllr.Tony McCormack, Cllr. Frank Moran and Cllr. Danny Owens – received the unanimous backing of delegates.
The evening’s proceedings were overseen by Senator Paul J Daly and Marguerite O’Loughlin (Fianna Fail - Leinster Organiser ).
Each of the candidates began by addressing the room and outlining the work they have been involved with both individually and collaboratively and their vision for ongoing and future endeavours.
The meeting was then opened to the floor, where members put questions to the four candidates. There was a stimulated discussion on the town planning and the various challenges Tullamore faces.
The ongoing issue of recent construction on the New Road and the varying opinions on how the project should be handled going forward, highlighted that the issue is a very emotive topic for the people of Tullamore.
The subject of derelict buildings in the town centre was also discussed with the councillors illustrating some strategies that could eradicate or reduce the issue. The very topical matter of housing also encouraged much discussion.
Plans for the commencement of construction and development throughout the town were gladly highlighted by the councillors.
TD Barry Cowen, also in attendance, addressed the group and spoke on issues such as such as Brexit and it’s impact and what a no-deal outcome could mean.
The next Offaly Fianna Fail CDC meeting will take place Monday 10th of December at 8.30pm in the the Tullamore Court Hotel.
All members are welcome.
