THE allocation of €10 million for the redevelopment of Clara’s Ard Scoil Chiarain secondary school has been hailed as a major investment in education in the area.

Local T.D. Deputy Barry Cowen said yesterday evening’s [Tuesday] news was a wonderful boost for the school and the town of Clara and its hinterland.

Ard Scoil Chiarain Principal Roger Geagan welcomed the news as “positive recognition of the excellent education being provided at the school.”

Approval for the investment was confirmed by the Department of Education & Skills and it is understood that Laois Offaly Education Training Board [LOETB] will now engage a design team to progress the project.

Paul Fields, Director of Schools at LOETB, said that “the school community can now look forward to having facilities to meet the needs of current and future students as well as providing capacity for the continuing increase in enrolments at Ard Scoil.”

Deputy Cowen paid tribute to the Principal, staff and the entire school community at Ard Scoil “for their ongoing work to ensure the success of the school”.

“We must now do our utmost to ensure that each stage of the redevelopment programme is progressed in a timely fashion,” said the Clara based Dail Deputy.
