John Flanagan chosen as Grand Marshall for St Patrick's Day Parade

John Flanagan has been chosen as the Grand Marshall for this year’s Tullamore St. Patrick’s Day Parade in recognition of his enormous contribution to Tullamore and Offaly. The Parade takes place on Sunday 17 March, starting at 11.30 a.m.

“The Committee unanimously chose Johnny Flanagan as this year’s Grand Marshall and we are delighted that he has accepted. He has given a lifetime of committment to the business and social life of Tullamore and indeed Offaly. His company have constructed many fine housing developments and of course landmark buildings such as the Church of the Assumption and the very successful Tullamore Court Hotel” stated Sean O’ Brien, Parade Secretary/PRO.

“Johnny has been a great supporter of voluntary and community groups in the Town and has encouraged and supported our own Parade Committee over the years. Many local people have benefitted from his advice and encouragement when they were setting up small businesses locally. We feel it is fitting that he should be this year’s Grand Marshall and officially launch the Parade on our great national day” continued Sean O’ Brien.

The Theme for this year is “A Vision Of The Future”. Each organisation can interpret this in many ways. It could be proposals for their own organisation or group, their plans or aspirations or what they want to achieve or change. It could also be a vision for the future of the Town, the County or Ireland as a whole, or the World ! It could also be a vision in relation to an issue such as housing, climate change, a world issue or even Brexit ! Individuals, organisations, businesses and groups can decide for themselves how they reflect this theme in their entry.

The Parade takes place on Sunday 17 March, starting at 11.30 a.m. The assembly point is the Car Park of the Bridge Centre. We are asking people to be there between 10.30 and 11.00 so that we can be ready to start at 11.30 a.m. sharp. The very popular Face Painting will be available from 10.00 a.m. at the rear entrance to the Bridge Centre.
