A PROUD John James Mulligan is pictured here with the pike he caught on the Grand Canal.

It was the heaviest pike caught on the day at his great grandad's fishing competition, the Jim Hogan Memorial Cup on Sunday, February 17 in Tullamore.

John James is the youngest member of the Tullamore & District Angling Club and only took up the sport recently.

“He is always winning through good fishing on a weekly basis. John James Mulligan is a name to keep an eye on for the future,” said the club’s Pat Foran.

The event was held in memory of the late Jim Hogan, a well known angler in the Tullamore club who still lives on in the memory of his friends and family today.
