Gortnamona National School held their Biodiversity day of action on March 27 last. This was the school’s 5th green flag.
All students wore colours resembling the colours of our natural birds and wildlife in Ireland. Throughout the day, all students from Junior Infants to Sixth Class took part in planting all different types of shrubs, trees and flowers.
The Green Schools Committee has worked on this project for the past two years. During this time they have constructed bug hotels, log piles, a wormery, animal tracker, leaf piles and a micro pond in various places in our playground.
The students will continue to maintain these in the future and hopefully they will attract mini beasts and different types of birds to our school.
