Reunion for CBS 1969/1970 'golden boys'

PAT Hennessy, Patrick Street native and former ambassador to countries such as Irael, Italy and the United Arab Emirates, is appealing to Tullamore CBS past pupils from 1969 and 1970 to come together for a 50th anniversary reunion on Friday, June 7 next.

Pat did the Leaving Certificate himself in 1969 at the school and he is hoping as many of his classmates as possible, plus those from the following year, will be able to come along to the event in the Tullamore Court Hotel (7pm).

“For those of us fortunate enough to be still around we can look back on our years at the CBS and wonder was that really a half century ago,” said Pat.

“Whatever path you followed, or wherever it took you, we were building on solid foundations put down in High Street many years before. Each will have their own particular memories, but we were undoubtedly fortunate in having the support of many excellent teachers, some of whom continued to give service at Coláiste Choilm long after we departed. Indeed, as those who have seen the present campus can attest it is clear that ‘our old school’ has gone from strength to strength in the intervening decades,” he added.

“Golden anniversaries are special events so it seems right that we should celebrate this milestone of our graduation from the CBS. Hopefully it will be a chance to reconnect with old school mates, some we may see regularly but others probably not since we parted ways all those years ago. It will be an evening to reconnect, remember and reminisce on the good ol’ days!”

Those interested in attending the CBS Golden Anniversary Dinner are asked to please contact Pat Hennessy, Michael Byrne or James Scully and leave a message at for one of the organisers (tickets will be €40).
