SEAMUS Buckley has received an Offaly Sports Partnership volunteer award for his contribution to cycling in the midlands. Seamus has been a major influence in the 25 years of Tullamore Cycling and Touring Club. By leading, organising, coaching, supporting and helping other members, he is still continuing to leave his mark in cycling in Offaly and the Midlands.

His shop in Tullamore, Buckley Cycles, has been an unofficial Club house for TCTC since he joined the club 23 years ago.

There, Seamus has gathered club membership, kept and maintained club equipment while the shop also acts as a meeting point for club training spins.

Each year Seamus offers his support and expertise for the annual sportif, Pat Colgan Pedal the Peaks Cycle, since it began over 20 years ago. He ensures every participant of this cycle, so far as possible, right up to the final cyclist gets over the line at the end.

Seamus and his brother Pat founded, sponsor and continue to run the Midlands League, a cycling road racing league for the 4 midland counties of Longford, Westmeath, Laois and Offaly. This league which has grown each year for the past decade with cyclists from 10 clubs in 4 different divisions. It has provided a setting for talented cyclists from the midlands, to get a foundation in racing before they continue on to the National and International stage.

A passionate athlete, Seamus has completed many serious cycling challenges during his 23 years in the club. 10 Wicklow 200, A Mizen to Malin non-stop in 19 hours 53 minutes in 2006. Arklow to Achill to Achill in 11 hours 47s in 2007. 32 counties in 32 hours in 2009, Lands End to John O’Goats in 2011 and Mizen to Malin and back, a “Double attempt” in 2015 in 46 hours and 30 mins.

Seamus is very always very grateful to the club for giving him the best of friends and enjoyment down through the years. He believes in the of value of a club as a community and promotes TCTC any way he can. Without doubt, Seamus is definitely in the heart of cycling in Tullamore, Offaly and the Midlands.
