A POIGNANT celebration of the life of Colin Dunne will take place in Barcelona on Sunday, March 10. A Leinster minor hurling medal winner with Offaly in 2000, Dunne collapsed and died just over 5km from the finish line of the Barcelona marathon in 2009.
A national school teacher in Killeigh and senior hurler and footballer with his home club, Shamrocks, the 27 year old was a hugely popular individual.
A group of family and friends are travelling out to Barcelona to mark the 10th anniversary of his death this March, including his parents Tom and Bernie and sister Ciara. A few locals are running the full marathon while the remainder of the group will walk or jog the final 5k that Colin didn't get to compete.
Funds are being sought for CRY (Cardiac risk in the young), a self supporting charity based in Tallaght Hospital that aims to increase awareness of sudden adult death amongst young people as well as providing support for bereaved families.
