Daryl lines up with the great Danes

SOCCER-mad Daryl Keegan from Geashill won the prize of his dreams recently when he was selected as a mascot for the Republic of Ireland game against Denmark.

The 11-year-old, who plays with Killeigh Under 13s in the Midlands Schoolboys League, was the lucky winner of a draw through the Elverys sports Facebook page.

The prize saw him line up with the Denmark team for Ireland’s UEFA Nations League match at the Aviva stadium, Lansdowne Road.

His parents, Paul and Shirley, also got tickets for the match.

“He loved it. He got a lovely new full kit,” remarked Shirley.

All of the mascots are paired with players at random and the Killeigh National School pupil was delighted to get one of his heroes, young Ajax star Kasper Dolberg.

“He knew him straight away,” said Shirley.
